Welcome to Living My Faith, a weekly show that celebrates the everyday believers who are walking with Jesus not just on Sundays, but in every area of their lives. From relationships and parenting to health, habits, and home, our guests share how they keep their faith at the center of it all. Hosted in Jacksonville, Florida and supported by Christ-centered partners, Living My Faith is a space where real life meets real faith. Today our hosts, Dr. Chuck Coker and Morgan Allen, spoke with Katherine Hutchinson-Hayes.

Can you share a moment or experience that significantly deepened or shaped your faith journey?

One moment that profoundly shaped my faith journey happened about eighteen years ago, shortly after I gave birth. I suffered a brain hemorrhage that nearly took my life. It was one of the most frightening and vulnerable seasons I’ve ever faced. In an instant, everything I thought I could control—my health, my plans, even my future as a mother—felt uncertain. During that time, I experienced the kind of dependence on God that I had only read about before. When you are faced with the fragility of life, faith stops being theoretical and becomes deeply personal. I remember praying in ways I never had before, not with polished words, but simply crying out to God and trusting Him with my life and my family. Surviving that experience changed how I see every day. It deepened my gratitude for life and strengthened my conviction that God still has purpose for me here. It also taught me that faith isn’t about having everything figured out—it’s about trusting God even in the moments when we feel the most helpless. Looking back, what could have been only a tragedy became a turning point in my spiritual life. It reminded me that every breath is a gift, and it strengthened my commitment to live intentionally, serve others, and stay close to God in every season.

In what ways do you actively live out your faith in your daily life — at work, home, or in your community?

For me, faith isn’t something I turn on only at church—it’s something that shapes how I live every day. I try to reflect my faith in the way I treat people, the way I speak to others, and the choices I make both at home and in my work. One meaningful way I live out my faith is through volunteering at a pregnancy crisis center. I have served there once a week for the past twelve years. That time has allowed me to walk alongside women during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I try to offer compassion, encouragement, and practical support, always remembering that every person deserves dignity, care, and hope. My faith also guides how I interact with my family. I try to model patience, kindness, and grace in my relationships, knowing that the people closest to us often see our faith most clearly through our actions. Whether I’m listening, encouraging, or simply being present, I want my family to experience the love of Christ through me. In every area of life—at work, at home, and in my community—I try to live with the understanding that faith is not just something we believe, but something we practice daily through service, integrity, and love for others.

What encouragement or scripture has been especially meaningful to you in this season, and why?

One passage that has been especially meaningful to me in this season is Micah 6:8: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” This scripture has been on my heart because of the ways I see people being treated in our world right now. It is heartbreaking to watch so many turn their backs on the orphan, the widow, the immigrant, the poor, and vulnerable children. When I read Micah 6:8, I am reminded that God’s call to us is clear and simple—live justly, show mercy, and remain humble before Him. For me, this also shapes how I think about being truly pro-life. Being pro-life should not simply mean being against abortion while neglecting the needs of people at other stages of life. I believe it means valuing and caring for life at every stage—from the unborn child to the infant, the child, the teenager, the adult, and the senior. It means recognizing the dignity and worth of every person God has created. Micah 6:8 continually calls me back to what matters most: living out my faith through justice, compassion, and humility. It reminds me that following Christ means caring deeply about the wellbeing of others and seeking to reflect God’s mercy in the way I live and serve.
