Tell me a time you failed forward and what you learned from the experience
I failed when I opened ‘Allstate Insurance company’ 2007 to 2008.
What are your biggest obstacles and barriers to success?
Business success is endurance and marathon- I have learn that I need to be prepare my status mentally, financially to get through initial stage.
What is the proudest moment of your leadership career?
When I worked at Vacation rental pros, and building a team of 200.

And welcome back to Legacy of Leaders. I’m your host, Captain Rick Hoffman, and I’m here with Kyung Bishop from Upgrade Labs.
You’ve been doing a lot of other things in the nearly three decades you’ve been in Jacksonville.
Kyung:
Yes, I’ve been involved in a lot of different businesses, so I have plenty of experience for a new challenge.
Rick:
Well, I would consider you a serial entrepreneur, as you’ve been in real estate and insurance.
Tell me a little bit about your new passion project.
Kyung:
My new passion started by looking for my purpose after my father passed away.
I’ve been struggling because I did not know I was that sad.
After that, I started reading many books.
One book that really resonated with me was Superhuman by Dave Asprey.
That book really resonated with me, so I started following him and went to a conference.
I realized there is a world out there focused on helping people get better and live longer without suffering from modern diseases.
I feel like that is my purpose for the rest of my life, helping people.
That motivates me to do something that impacts society, my family, my friends, and everyone.
Rick:
How long have you been working on Upgrade Labs?
Kyung:
It’s been about four years.
About five years ago, I started struggling with many things, and for the past four years, I’ve been preparing to open this facility.
I think Jacksonville is very lucky because it’s a big city and growing, and I believe the timing is right.
Rick:
Where will you be located?
Kyung:
The location is at 210 and 95 next to Saint Vincent’s Hospital.
There’s a new Hilton Hotel coming, along with restaurants and shopping at Fountain View.
Phase one is already full, and I will be in phase two, which is currently under development.
Rick:
When do you expect to open?
Kyung:
I’ve been waiting for this for three years.
The lease was signed about two years ago.
I expect to open this September.
Rick:
Congratulations.
What about your daughter?
Kyung:
She graduated a couple of years ago and now lives in New York.
She majored in environmental engineering.
Rick:
Well, congratulations.
