Speaker 1
From studio three at buzz TV. It’s the Horse’s Mouth with Tom McManus.

Speaker 2
All right. Time once again for the horse’s mouth. Here, Tommy Max. Of course, at my bar, where everybody’s welcome to have a seat and get a chance to tell their story. Brought to our good friends at the Foodies Care organization, helping people out northeast Florida love having them on board. And of course, right here at the Daily News Network.

Speaker 2
Jax Power Pro is here someday. Holmes is here. They’re all mixed up and we’ll figure it out. But they’re here to talk about their business and everything that they have got going on. We start with Matt Hersey from Jax Power Pro. Hey, Matt, how are you, Matthew or Matt? Matthew, very good to have you on the show. Tell us about your business.

Speaker 2
My Matt.

Speaker 3
So we are a Jacksonville based local electrical contractor okay. And electrical solutions for commercial, residential and service.

Speaker 2
Okay. How long you been doing that?

Speaker 3
I’ve been doing it for 18 years.

Speaker 2
You have?

Speaker 3
And, my partner here, my right hand man.

Speaker 2
Dennis. Yeah, yeah. No, I don’t skip.

Speaker 3
Yeah, yeah. Makes it. Yeah. He’s been doing it same amount of time. Yeah. The company has been operating for, we’re on our fourth year as electrical.

Speaker 2
All right. Good man. Good for you. You made you pass the test, right? Those first couple of years are tough. I’m sure. Right. I’m sure they’re always tough. But get it rolling and good things happen. Is this how you guys sit at a park so you don’t have to talk business all the time? Yeah, yeah. Separate each other.

Speaker 2
Yeah. There we go. All right, well, I’ll go to Dennis. Dennis, how are you, man? Good to see you guys here. With Jack’s power pro. How long you been involved?

Speaker 4
I’ve been involved since 2023.

Speaker 2
Okay.

Speaker 4
Matt asked me to come over to the company. I think you came to Nova’s first or second birthday party, if I remember right.

Speaker 2
Okay.

Speaker 4
Came to my next to youngest daughter’s birthday party. Was like, hey, man, I got the company off the ground. Yeah, okay. When are you coming over? Cool. And at the time, I’d just gotten done, with, partnership with my little brother doing remodeling. Okay, now, it’s not a good time, but we talked it over a few times.

Speaker 4
Yeah. And, I made it over in April, and started out, like, half in the field. Half brother management. Yep. And so today, I’m proud to be the operator operations manager for you. All right.

Speaker 2
Congratulations.

Speaker 4
In a great direction. I couldn’t be happier with my professional and personal life up to this point.

Speaker 2
Good for you, man. It’s a good place to be in. Yeah, absolutely. Well, the electricity side of that scares me that, like, I, I could change a light bulb, but I’m not doing anything, you know, I’ll blow the whole place up, but you gotta be really careful with that. So. Yeah. So you must have learned at a young age how to deal with all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 3
I got brought into the industry from my best friend, actually, through high school.

Speaker 2
Okay. Yeah.

Speaker 3
Got it out. 19 years old.

Speaker 2
Did you have shop in high school?

Speaker 3
We did. You do electrical?

Speaker 2
You didn’t do electrical carpentry?

Speaker 3
Yeah.

Speaker 2
Okay. Very cool. All right. Let’s talk to some day, homes. What’s up? Brandon Adams and Matt Roberts. Hey, fellas. How are you? So you get your house someday, What’s it going to be done someday.

Speaker 5
And it’s more or less the the dream home. And people always say, someday we’re going to have this, or someday we’ll do that. And, you know, we’re here to do that for custom homes. We do custom homes. Yeah, we like to call it a semi custom spec. Okay. We, build everything in house. We, with Matt’s help acquire either vacant lots or tear down houses.

Speaker 5
Okay? And we start from the ground up, and we build a beautiful house and put it on the market.

Speaker 2
Very nice. So you have a, like, an idea and then they can customize it. Once they pick the idea.

Speaker 5
We, we do all of our own designs. Okay? A lot of them are 101. We have a lot of in-house design. So kitchens, bathrooms, things like that, or just a little bit out of the norm, a little kind of step up from what you’re used to seeing on a spec.

Speaker 2
Are you the architect?

Speaker 5
Per se? I am the builder. So. Builder. Yep.

Speaker 2
So you can read the architecture? Yeah, I.

Speaker 5
Read the plans. Exactly right. So me and now we’re together. Matt, acquires our lots, and he does a good job kind of designing and developing a lot that will fit our a house that’ll fit the lot nicely.

Speaker 2
Is it hard to find lots these days, Matt in Jacksonville, depending on the area, I’m sure. But how is it, finding those those opportunities?

Speaker 6
It is. It’s not as easy as looking for land or lots on the market. Yeah, we’ve been in the business in the construction industry since about 2016. Okay. I started the real estate brokerage for the wholesale side in 2020. So we’ve been around long enough to have the feelers and the relationships out to where we’ll get a lot of calls on properties that either other real estate people, industry people know.

Speaker 2
Okay.

Speaker 6
Before they go to market. So we don’t necessarily have to bid against off.

Speaker 2
Markets the best. Right?

Speaker 6
So when you come out on there and then anything else that’s on the.

Speaker 2
Market and you got to have a good eye for not it’s not just land where you can see a home. Maybe they it looks like maybe they need some work. Maybe they don’t care anymore. Maybe I’ll send him a letter, you know, or knock on the door, whatever it takes.

Speaker 6
Right. Yeah. That and then figuring out, you know, utilities run here. What’s the location? How’s it going to sell? Yeah. And all that stuff I preliminary do for the evaluation in the acquisition.

Speaker 2
Okay. So you guys do a lot of business to try to do some business together.

Speaker 5
We do? Yeah.

Speaker 3
We have actually did the first three homes together.

Speaker 6
Yeah. Okay.

Speaker 5
Yeah. We started off there. So.

Speaker 2
Very cool. Yeah. Have you always been a home builder in the construction world?

Speaker 5
I have not actually started as a schoolteacher here in Duval County for six years. Yeah. And, Matt and myself and our wives, we purchased homes and we started to kind of fix up and remodel those houses, and we kind of grew a little love for it and became good at it and really started to do it for me as a side project, teaching, you know, off days on the weekends and summers and stuff.

Speaker 5
So I just kind of worked and worked and worked and stayed busy enough. And we got to a point where we had saved up some money, and Matt was like, I think we should try to flip a house. So we started with a flip. We did that a couple of times and then it got to a point.

Speaker 5
Like Matt said, he was like, I’m gonna go get my real estate license. I went and got my contractor’s license. Yep. We kind of came back together at that point and said, all right, let’s let’s start this development thing.

Speaker 2
So, yeah. And you guys, are you guys all from Java or just Jaguar fans? All Jack just you all Jack fans and all that. Yeah, but not from not from Wisconsin. Okay. It’s way better down here in it. Yeah yeah yeah. Are you guys native?

Speaker 5
I’m a native.

Speaker 2
Your native.

Speaker 5
I’m from South Florida.

Speaker 2
Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Beautiful.

Speaker 6
From, Saint Pete, Florida. Okay. Here for 20 years now.

Speaker 2
Right. So you’re built into the environment, right? I’ve been here 30 now, so you know how time flies. But what a great year for our jacks. That helps business. I mean, it’s just everyone’s happy here. Yeah. You know, hey costs little more.

Speaker 5
Ain’t that worry about it. So that’s what my 30.

Speaker 2
I get my business to like I sell, you know, my my services and whatnot. Marketing and yeah, it’s like, you know, when they’re winning, it’s like, oh yeah, let’s do it. When they’re not, when they’re like, hey, you know, I don’t know.

Speaker 5
A little quieter around the city.

Speaker 2
All right. So 13 wins this year. Let’s talk ball for a minute, shall we? What’s the what do you think next year maybe can’t get 13 wins every year? That’s really hard. But if they’re vying for the playoffs. Matt I’m not Matthew. I’m. That’s all I need. Yeah. Playing meaningful football in December. Getting into the tournament almost every year.

Speaker 3
I think that’s going to be their main objective for this year. Yeah. It’s you know, what are we going to do to be in the playoffs again and move further.

Speaker 2
Yeah. You know yeah. How about you.

Speaker 5
Win the division. But it’s 13 games 12 games 14.

Speaker 2
That’s the standard.

Speaker 5
Home playoff game. And maybe it’s a little better of a draw in that first round.

Speaker 4
Yeah yeah we need to see 12 wins. Gotta have 12 wins. You get that home field advantage. Yeah I mean we lost at home this year. I can imagine this playing on the road next year. That’s right. You know definitely definitely an advantage for having home. Yeah.

Speaker 2
So yeah well you guys are younger and it’s great to have that fan base man. Do you tell you’re passionate about a passion about what you do and living here in Java which is awesome. Can’t my find it much better than that? How about you. Do you think next year.

Speaker 6
I think we do a little bit better than we did this year? Really? I think we take it maybe a step farther.

Speaker 2
15 and two. So let’s go least get married.

Speaker 6
At least get further into like the playoffs. Okay, I agree with that. I think a lot of there was a lot of good signs early on in the season, but they made their mistakes and they learned and kind of adapted. So that’s I can start off on that better foot. I think they’ll they’ll take it a step.

Speaker 2
Well same with you guys. You got you rolling to 20. You know and a 25. Feeling good. Coming to 26 feeling good right. To ride that wave. Ride that momentum. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thanks for being here coach. And all right. Oh great stuff. Hey check out their profiles. Check out this conversation. You can check it all out at the Daily News network.com website.

Speaker 2
Till next time y’all stay safe. Y’all be cool out there and go jags all throughout the year. Till next time. We’ll see you right here on The Horse’s Mouth. Cheers!
