James:
Hi and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore. We’ve got a great show for you today. Today we’ve got two wonderful guests. Joining me is Rochelle Mekowulu and Ron Porter. So, guys, I start this show with one simple question. I’m going to start with you, Rochelle. Rochelle. How are you living your faith?

Rochelle:
Well, presently I’m living my faith. Obviously the obvious ones at home in my community, etc.. But more specifically, I’m living my faith through the business that I run Virche Coaching and Consulting, where I help to develop leaders who are able to learn, by God’s grace, successful businesses so that they can have larger kingdom impact. You know, it means so much to me to see businesses operating in a way where God can be glorified, and where they are running with such excellence and precision and clients that are coming into contact with these businesses are able not because they necessarily have posters on the wall declaring who they are and declaring their faith, but they see it in the way they are treated. They see it in the way the business is run in an excellent way. And so, my desire, what I am doing now is really helping to cooperate with the Lord in building leaders that can steward those kind of businesses.

James:
I love that, Rochelle. That’s such a crucial part of a business. It’s just it’s going to anchor you, right? And just to make decisions. And treating your people the right way as well. Ron. How about you? How are you living your faith?

Ron:
Well, it’s interesting, the show is talking about leadership development. I did a lot of that between the year 2000. In 2013, traveling, several places around the world and many places in the United States, doing, leadership, training for pastors and ministry leaders. Traveled to Sierra Leone and Belgium and Nigeria and many places here in the United States.

Currently, though, you know, somewhat semi-retired, I am, an author of a book. Basically, it’s why Christianity, it’s basically a book about apologetics. But unlike Lee Strobel, who was an atheist, you know, that began, writing his book, trying to prove Christianity was wrong. I, took to a different approach and, wrote a book, regarding the apologetics of, of all different religions and facts about them.

Things that I discovered, things of, you know, debate, the syncretism of religions and how that lives out in people’s lives and try to help people through podcasting, which I’ve produced probably about 30, podcast parts of it was from my book and then, a new show, called Stuff Christian Should Think About. And those are available, you know, on most of the podcast systems.

And now I produce podcasts and encourage, Christians to think about several subjects, sometimes the poverty of friends or, helping strangers. The, will power in free will, you know, some theological things and some practical things like, the fear of cancer and the fears that come into people’s life. I’ve actually been diagnosed with cancer a month and a half ago, but the prognosis is pretty good. I got a meeting with the oncologist tomorrow, so my faith has been lived out not only in a lot of my teaching, since I’ve not only traveled abroad, but taught in local churches. But, in my podcasting that I’m doing right now.

James:
I love that, Ron. And first and foremost, you know, we’ll be praying for you. I’m happy to hear it was a positive diagnosis. And, yeah, we’ll definitely be praying for you. And I’m sure you know the Lord will see you through this.

Ron:
You’ll see.

James:
Well, and I like what you said about the apologetics on, on, you know, other religions too, because the fact is, you know, when we’re doing the Great Commission and we’re trying to make disciples, we’re not just dealing with people that are atheists or lukewarm Christians. Sometimes we’re talking to people that believe something else. And if we’re able to really have a true conversation about their religion as well, that really does put us kind of in a power position, to have an honest conversation.

But you guys both share something very similar, and that’s leadership development. So I would really love to talk to you a little bit about that. Rochelle, why is developing leaders that are, you know, grounded in Christ so important?

Rochelle:
It’s a good question. You know, my philosophy is, well, twofold. Number one, a people never rise higher than their leaders, right? And so that’s important. And then and then secondly, I believe that a business is a reflection of its leader, whether that’s in a good way or whether that’s in a bad way. The business is going to reflect both the strengths and the weaknesses of those leaders.

And when I look at how Christ walked with those 12 disciples, he was developing leaders. He was developing leaders who will then go on to be able to develop other people. And so a number of years ago, you know, I follow the Lord was really impressed upon my heart that if I wanted to really make a difference in this world, that there’s a way to do it at scale and doing it at scale was working with people who were leading because they have influence over so many underneath them.

And so that’s one of the driving motivations in my heart is to try to say, okay, Lord, I believe you’re coming soon. I want to hasten it in any way that I can. And I believe this is a way that he’s shown me in developing leaders who are running, who are not just running successful, successful businesses for profit motives, but even more so than that, they understand their responsibility to steward well the resources that has been given to them, both people, as well as, even intangible assets.

That just really resonates with me as a way to assist the Lord by his grace in helping to see him very soon.

James:
I love that, Rochelle. Thank you. Ron, I know that you said you did leadership development. And we’re talking the most important leaders, right? Those leaders in ministry, how have you been able to see, like, maybe the lessons you’ve taught them or what they’ve shown you in that process and kind of continue to apply it on these new, you know, journeys you have your podcast, your book, etc.?

Ron:
Well, the leadership lessons that I taught for over 12 years, I actually would have been considering, you know, doing a podcast show about all the lessons that I, you know, taught. But when the core of all those was, in, in Rochelle, I love what, what I’m hearing from you. But many, many, whether it’s a pastor or whether it’s a Christian business owner or just a ministry leader, and within a church, sometimes, especially in some different areas of the world, one of the attractions to leadership, is really fame, fortune, power and position.

And, what I do is I try to help people understand through the life of Jesus Christ as a child has just pointed out how he is the greatest leader of all time. The book of the Bible is the best seller of all time, and while there are many and dozens and dozens of books on leadership, some of them very well written, I taught strictly from the Bible in my seminars and used different leaders, in the Bible, from Nehemiah to Jesus and Peter and Paul and, and, and and tried to, help people understand, what their mindset was in wanting to lead the call, to lead.

And, actually whether or not they ought to be a leader, because many of my seminars, I would begin by saying, many of you in the room, that are coming, are gifted with leadership is what are the gifts, those identified in Romans and Corinthians. But one of the goals that I encourage people to say is that even when you’re done with my 3 or 4, five day seminars, you may find out that you’re not gifted in leadership.

And that’s okay. You can still come alongside another leader and help them, without necessarily, you know, having the authority that comes along with leadership because that is, I believe, one of the hardest things for a Christian, or even a non-Christian to navigate through. And that is how do I use my authority? What authority have I been granted, either through the Bible or through my company and and work within that so that you can raise up new leaders that might replace you later on, which is not a bad thing, because if if you, are a are you really a great leader, you’re training people to potentially replace you someday, which then God can call you to the next level.

James:
I love what you said about in the beginning about how some leaders are chasing, you know, fame, fortune, and, you know, just being the face. And it reminded me of, you know, we have the upside down kingdom. I think we need to take that and make it an upside down business in a lot of ways. Right. Exactly true.

That’s the true type of leader we’re going to want. Rochelle around. It has been such a pleasure having you guys on today. We’ve learned so much. Thank you so much for coming on. I really appreciate it. I want you to know we’re going to have all your information in the show sheet, in the show notes, so people will be able to find you email, you go to your websites, find your podcast.

But thank you so much for joining us. I’m James Fenimore. This has been living my faith and I can’t wait to see you next time. That was great.
